Honorius III Part three - Lists of the Monuments

What follows is a list of the monuments of the Popes from Martin V to John Paul I. There is a broad correlation between the death of the pope and the execution of his monument, but there are some remarkable exceptions and for this reason the monuments are also listed chronologically. The links in the middle column when referred to a church lead to a .html file providing an overview of the church. Additional links in the middle column in most cases lead to a .jpg file (in this case they open in another window).

S. Pietro Bronze and marble monument by Guglielmo della Porta (1575). The monument was most likely designed with the advice of Michelangelo. The pope (bronze statue) is seated on a high pedestal and is shown bareheaded. Four marble statues (the Virtues) laid at the foot of the pedestal. In 1628 Bernini moved the monument to a niche in the apse of the Basilica and two statues were transferred to Palazzo Farnese.

CHRONOLOGICAL LIST OF THE MONUMENTS
The list does not include the popes buried in a sarcophagus or in the ground and it does not include monuments executed after 1864. The execution of the monuments in some cases required a long time (in the case of the Monument to Julius II more than 30 years). The date used for this list is the date of the completion of the monument or of the completion of its main components.
